The only thing worse than starting something and failing..... is not starting something. Wise words. Along the lines of old sayings- better to have tried and failed..... What this means for trust is learning to trust yourself. We approach relationships and decision-making with a unique view of worldview of trust. Do we see the people as fundamentally trustworthy or not? When we encounter new people or new situations, are we guarded and on alert, looking for signs of devious behaviour? Or do we assume that most people approach us with good intentions and with a view to ensuring that they will help our needs to be met. It is the servant-leader philosophy in which we do not take a role of what's in it for me- but instead focus on how can I help. That is why an important component of building trust is empathy. Check your attitude the next time you are in a customer service situation- either as the customer or as the person delivering the service. Are you expecting cooperation and mutual gains or are you braced for the hidden agenda. How you approach the other person will inform what comes next and whether you can both be authentic or not. Authentic usually produces a better outcome. Think about it. Add your comment |
